The mirror...

Fiki starred at the reflection in the mirror.. Kaalu had made for her in the earlier days of their marriage.. her face shone whitish pale in the lamp light set beside on the edge of window grill.. it's flame flickered in cold evening breeze.. Kaalu insisted to light up both oil lamps everyday before dark.. because of powercut.. the overhead electric bulb went off once in a while.. the lamps burned everyday through evening till midnight .. and he doused them after making love with her everynight.. he didn't like dark while during night .. he like to see her under bright light .. ever since he had once seen her accidentally.. once when the power cut during night had been remade.. the lamp had flashed bright suddenly putting the whole of room in brightness..

She had been mortified.. trying to cover herself..

Fiki: oh..

He didn't let her cover in shawls and later had developed a habbit of putting lamp on so much that he had made another lamp..

He was resting in front yard by figg tree..

Her heart fluttered as she heard him stand up and pull over his bedstead cot in the corridor and in to next room.. she moved away from mirror quickly.. he didn't like her muse before mirror.. as he had said once ..

Kaalu: don't waste time by mirror..

afterwards once he had seen her in light .. .. earlier he didn't say anything..but liked when she spent time in front mirror to make intricate hairstyle and design with colourful crimson and kajal .. she recollected .. painfully.. he had grown rude afterwards making her submissive forcefully by any means.. keeping lights on arguing that it was wise to keep a lamp on during night.. everyone was ..

Kaalu: all our neighbours keep a lamp on..

Fiki was confused as other houses were far away.. what a little chance that anyone would see that they didn't set light on.. she had argued..

Fiki: noone keep a lamp on all night .. besides they can't notice.. please keep an extra lamp alongside porch and tree..

He had become angry .. and loved her .. despite she cried..

He came in the room..

Kaalu: light up another lamp.. the power cut is about to be.. and why haven't you made bed set yet..?

She did. ... make bed mattress on floor as usual after lighting another lamp..

He undressed and loved ignoring her reluctance as always..

Kaalu: it's been a year since our marriage.. it seems you don't like me..

Fiki trembled in fear.. she didn't want to fight with him.. besides she liked him..

Fiki: please douse the lamps..

He did.. and hugged her lovingly..

Kaalu: i have to make another mirror for you..

She snuggled closer..

The cliff..

Paarya went to the cliff everyday.. in the hope that she would hear the melodious cadence once more.. just once more.. please.. God.. she prayed.. as she climbed the steep clear trail.. to the top of the hill nearby her house.. she went regularly to see the sunrise or sometimes sunset mostly in the evening.. please as she urged herself forward.. the stiff cotton folds of her paticote flipping by her legs... she hardly payed any attention to the side.. the shrubs looked extremely still as she moved .. appeared yellow sometimes.. she wondered .. if it was flowers or the drop in her false vision.. both sides were flooded with spring blooms... lightly sprinkled.. . shrubs and bushes... somewhere.. right from out the gate of her house to the steep incline.. then a rise.. really was a small span of substantially wide strap to the base of earth rise to hill and then a little awkward steady incline up to the small flat ground atop hill and uneven extension of the hill side in all ways.. the...

The Rocks...

there was a small (little) hummock nearby sheetla's village.. she went there everyday directly after school.. to find colourful rocks.. she liked very much.. she would carefully search different coloured stones and bring back her school bag full of rocks in different size and shapes.. her mother would say. .. Mori: sheetla.. these rocks are useless.. why do you work so much to go find rocks.. my daughter.. Sheetla: mother.. they are so colourful.. i like.. Mori: alright sweetie.. now do eat something.. before you go to hill.. you haven't eaten anything.. whole day.. Sheetla: i am not hungry.. She would answer bouncing out the corridor and crossing courtyard to go along play with her awaiting friends.. outside the gate.. She never skipped to go to the mound .. mostly her friends accompanied her but even if by chance they weren't there.. she would go alone.. Once.. she came home early to go to hill.. Mori: why you skipped school.. ? My daughter.. these st...

The lights of Gori..

Mohini stood at the brink.. near a tree.. looking at Vishmak as he did cut out logs from dry shrubs or bushes big enough.. and woods that were over grown.. He spoke from where he stood.. Vishmak: rest if you are tired.. i am going a little deeper .. further in woods.. you will still hear me.. he moved further .. away from the mass of piled chunks he had set near a couple of big trees.. Mohini felt a numbing as Vishmak whispered in her ears.. a croon.. a grey cloud engulfed her body .. and as she shied away.. her soul.. set on fire of his warmth .. that rose in her heart.. suffocating her existence in the surrounding filled with brilliance of multiple coloured flowers.. Mohini: let me go.. She jirked up and walked out from the edge.. The sun was about to set.. and it would be dark soon.. she looked at the hill and the small house above.. Vishmak had built for them as he had said yesterday.. when he had become sure that she was in this region.. he had a flash of vision ....
